CURRENT FAMILIES

Hey there, we are the Sellars! Our goofy crew will be adding another little one to the family! We are currently in the midst of an international adoption from Lesotho, Africa, and waiting to be matched.
 

Our family lives in a suburb of Dallas, Texas, and we have four children ages 3, 4, 6, and 8 years old. Our amazing sons also joined our family through adoption.
 

Adoption is something that we discussed even when we were dating and always thought would likely be a part of our family's story. Melana spent time in Uganda when she was 20 as a volunteer at a babies home. She lived on-site while there and helped care for the kids. That experience was highly impactful for her, and she is still connected with many of those kids and their adoptive families today. In fact, ten years later, we moved across the street from two of the kids she cared for while there. How wild is that? It has been so special for our family to have them as neighbors.
 

In 2019 God put foster care on our hearts and we started the process to become licensed. Over the course of the 3 years that followed we had nearly 40 children stay in our home. We got into fostering with the desire to support families healing and reunification not with the goal of
adoption (though we were open to it if it became a need for a child in our home). We have a big heart for seeing families reunified, and parents having the support they need to successfully parent and that was always our goal. However, we also understand that in some circumstances that sadly isn’t possible. We believe that kids deserve to be raised in families and our family has lots of love to give another child which is why we are pursuing an adoption again.
 

One reason we chose Lesotho is we appreciated that they saw international adoption as a last resort. If the child’s family is known then they first seek out placement with the child’s relatives or community if possible. If that’s not an option they will seek out an adoptive family within Lesotho. They always prioritize local adoption first which we love. If neither of those options are available then they seek out an international adoptive family. Currently we are in the waiting process for a referral, which could be months or years. Our kids are very excited to have another sibling and can’t wait to meet them.
 

A bit about us, we relocated from Washington State to Texas in the fall of 2022 and we absolutely love it. Daniel works for a tech company but gets to work from home which provides him with a very flexible schedule. Melana has her own online apparel business and designs children’s clothing. Her work is as flexible as it gets which has been so nice as a mostly stay at home mama.
 

We love to spend time outside exploring new parks, paddle-boarding, or hanging out at the neighborhood pool and splash pad. The kids also enjoy playing with our dog, a fluffy sheepadoodle named Morrison. We love to host friends, and often have people over to the house for meals or to hangout. 

 

Our neighborhood is amazing and we love how the kids have so many friends on our street to run around and play with. We attend a local church, and have a really neat community though
that as well which we are so thankful for.
